This rant/post was from a while back, so I was kind
of surprised to see
it floating up again. I'm not sure I should give any
suggestions about
what userpages should look like, since one of the
factors in my post was
that I was having the fear of logging in one day to
find "We need to
talk - some sysop" instead of my userpage.
Basically, I had it brought
to my attention that these user pages have stupid
amounts of
googlejuice, coming from how google page-ranking
works. I also noticed
that a lot of userpages were blank, or had links to
their LQ profiles.
LQ profiles give some information, but don't do much
to explain who
exactly the person behind the handle is. Basically
the same motivation
behind the community commons and the forums- "Who
are all these people?"
And here I was with my bloody life story up on my
user page - which I've
since shrunk some by the way.
I think we ought to have two policies - Definite
don'ts, things
guaranteed to get some action out of the sysops
(which piratically
nobody will read, but would be nice to point to when
you sysops are
yelling at them), and suggestions for the ideal user
page (which maybe
1%, at most, will read, but would be nice for
obsessive types like myself).
I'll put some guidelines together on this - thanks forDate: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 13:25:58 -0500

bringing it to our attention - also - congratulations
on the new sysadmin opportunity you're involved with -
hope it works out well for you and leads on to further
opportunities.
