It seems like LQ.wiki has some new competition ;)

An anonymous reader writes "Writing at LinuxWorld, Groklaw's PJ asks
"What Do Newbies Need to Make the Switch to GNU/Linux? and invites the
world - literally - to help with answering the question, by
participating in the wiki she and some colleagues have just launched.
GrokDoc aims to turn the usual process on its head: "Instead of experts
telling newbies how to do things, we will let newbies show and tell us
what they need." Might be a fantastic way to help push Linux still
further toward that fabled tipping-point."

Not really. GrokDoc is really a usability study and PJ actually
recommended LQ for general Linux stuff. Also, take a look at the
webmaster for that site ;)

I'd just like to point out that they're using the noncommerical variant
of Creative Commons, which is incompatible with our variant. We can't
use material from them, they can't use material from us.

GrokDoc should be able to use info from the LQ Wiki as long as the
by clause is followed (they are already following the sa clause). Since
we don't have the nc clause I think you are right that we can't use
material directly from GrokDoc in the LQ Wiki. Let me talk to PJ.

I've been poking around the various copyleft liscenses. I could be
wrong, but I think nc and sharealike aren't compatible. There was
mention of this in some discussion about the new Creative Commons
version. (2.0 i think - the one that gets read of the non-attribution
varients anyway.) Basically, the rationale is that, since nc puts in an
additional restriction, it isn't "sharing alike" with the version that
allows commerical use.

Thanks for the info Dan.
