Acronym standardisation

We need to settle on a standard method of formatting acronym
translations e.g GNU => GNU Not Unix, different people favour different
ways of formatting them, I prefer italicising each initial letter:
/G/NU /N/ot /U/nix
others put the whole thing in bold italicising the initials (this is
unreadable on my browser)
*/G/NU **/N/ot/ /**/U/nix*
and other embolden the initial letters.
*G*NU* N*ot *U*nix

So which is it to be??? I personally favour italicised initials.

Ditto. Plus, it's become the convention to embolden keywords (as
Mikhail illustrates in his example), so it makes sense to me to make
the expansion of the acronym follow the same pattern as the acronym.

I agree with Mikhail, bold looks much better.
